With NYC Civic Corps + Grassroots Grocery

Who We Are

Join our amazing team at Grassroots Grocery and become a catalyst for change in a one-of-a-kind nonprofit.

Our organization thrives on the energy of volunteers from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspective and passion to the table.

Grassroots Grocery can often feel like a community-driven movement. Fueled by a deep commitment to ensuring everyone has access to nutritious food, we empower neighborhoods by bridging the gap between surplus produce and those in need.

From the bustling stalls of Hunts Point Market to the dedicated volunteers who sort, pack, and deliver, to the tireless community leaders who serve their neighbors and champion our cause, we are a dynamic network united by a shared purpose. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, infusing every aspect of our work with joy and dedication.

It all begins with the bounty of fresh, high-quality produce we rescue from Hunts Point Market. Just a stone's throw away, where too many families are struggling to put food on the table.

Since 2021, we've rescued and delivered well over one million pounds of surplus produce, thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers. Due to  their efforts, we can deliver directly to the heart of communities where hunger is a harsh reality for too many.

Our community leaders, respectfully  known as “Grassroots Grocers,” go above and beyond to ensure that fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most.

Every Saturday, we rescue an average of 12,000 pounds of produce, nourishing over 1,100 families and making a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. Join us in this meaningful journey towards a more nourished and empowered community.
